Adobe Creative Suite software isn't the cheapest multimedia software, nor is it the easiest to learn, but it is the most flexible, full-featured and interoperable for creating quality print, web, audio and video materials to support your endeavours.
It is unlikely that you will need or want to learn all the Adobe titles, nor about all the features in all the titles, but if there are materials of a certain type that you need to create on a regular enough basis that it no longer makes sense to contract the work out to a consultant (like eggmedia), then it might be time to learn something about the Adobe line of software, the major titles of which include:
- Acrobat (creates PDF documents that will display and print the same on any computer - thus allowing for easy and wide distribution - also allows you to create fillable forms)
- Photoshop (the most robust image-editing software on the market)
- Illustrator (a graphics creation program that creates high-quality, scalable graphics for use in all mediums)
- InDesign (primarily a print design program for creating brochures, newsletters and the like, but also with great cross-platform capabilities for quickly converting print designs into web material)
- Flash (an animation software package used to create most of the animated and interactive content you encounter on the internet - also has a programming back-end allowing it to produce complex user interactions - good also for producing web video and interactive CD-ROMs and DVDs)
- Dreamweaver (a web site design, programming and file transfer software package)
- Fireworks (assists in creating full-bodied web pages using html and css)
- Soundbooth (Adobe's sound recording and editing program)
- Premiere (Adobe's video editing program)
- Encore (for creating DVDs with opening graphics and animated menus)
